D’oh Day!

Conserve India Laptop MessengerI was very pleased early this morning: I got up at the proper time and got ready in time. I only needed to hop on my bike to go to work. Normally I check my bag when walking downstairs and see that I got everything. Normally everything I need is in the bag. This morning, that wasn’t the case. As I walked downstairs I discovered my purse was missing. So I ran upstairs again to check all places where my purse normally would be. No purse still. Not on my desk, on the kitchen table, not in the kitchen or my room at all. Not in the hallway and not in my room mate’s room (who I rudely woke up to look there). It wasn’t in the bike shed either. And I had used it the day before to get home from work! So it either had to be at work or may be it got stolen. I hadn’t got much time to worry about it, because I had to rush to work sans purse. I figured I could get a day pass if I showed my ID to the guard and start worry about the purse after a thorough sweep of my room. I only looked at the regular places this morning and it wasn’t there. So it could be inside or fallen behind something. I better had to rule out that first before blocking passes what would mean I wouldn’t be able to get money at an ATM. If the purse got stolen, the thieves wouldn’t have much fun: no money in the purse, all cards have a PIN code or need an autograph + ID to get money. And I never have my ID and my (credit) cards together just because situations like this one can happen.

At work I got the other pass and on the work station I discovered my main software application didn’t want to start. It just didn’t. I tried at least ten times :( Today just wasn’t my day… After a while (and after contacting ICT) it worked again. I could use vtel to login the phone line and had a good morning. One girl calling in was just so glad I helped her and summarized what she had to do the get everything all right again that she made my day. :D

In the afternoon I need to process forms, that was a bit boring, but it needs to be done. People fill in forms by hand and send them to us, all those forms need to be processed by hand too. And we get forms from the whole country. So there’s a huge pile and a big backlog. A lot of forms aren’t filled in properly, miss autographs and the like. Those have to be sorted out and returned which causes a lot of extra work (and delays). It’s not the most exiting job, but it needs to be done and it pays well. So I’m glad to have it.

As I biked back home (after returning the day pass to the guards) I started wondering what I needed to do if my purse really was lost. I needed to contact my bank to block my cards and order new ones, I needed to contact the Dutch Rail road Service to get a new subscription card both for the reduction card as the RailPlus card I got and I tried to remember what other cards I needed to replace. So when I got home I resumed searching immediately. And guess what? I found my purse back! Yay! It slipped between my couch and the kitchen table, so therefore I had overseen it earlier this morning. What a relief, not so much because of the contents, but because I don’t need to buy a new purse now. I’m so happy with this (rather expensive) one.
