Sunday

Today was my weigh-in. I lost another 1.3 kilograms. That's roughly 2 lbs. So I was happy. I'm totally committed to my weight loss schedule. My target weight is 150 lbs. or 68 kilograms. I measure 5 ' 9" or 176 centimeters. So according to general health standards I should weigh about 68-70 kilograms in order to avoid health problems like diabetes. (It runs in my family).
I'm on target, I calculated how much weight I have to lose in order to reach my goal. I started april 22th and today I lost 9 pounds in total. That's good!

I checked a site to find out what I can do more in order to lose weight. I read a good site in Dutch, but tried to find a site in English too, to post here. This site gives about the same information as the Dutch site I checked. The Dutch Nutrition Center, I mentioned earlier, divided food into three segments: red, orange/yellow and green. Green foods are healthy, red foods are unhealthy and the orange/yellow section is inbetween. If you are eating red foods, and you don't like the green variant, try the yellow variant first and after that the green one.

So I checked the things I eat and found out I eat way too much carbonhydrates and I should replace it with proteins: non-fat yogurt, lean meat like chicken or fish and eggs. I also have to try to drink less coffee and black tea and try to replace the black tea by green tea. I'm also trying to buy products which are produced and/or traded fair and environmental friendly. So that's a lot to take into consideration.

1052482838a_t.jpgWe got a big coffee and tea brand here in the Netherlands, "Douwe Egberts / DE" for coffee and "Pickwick" for tea. Unfortunately their products don't meet the standards of 'fair trade', so I don't want to drink/support that. They claim to be social responsible and stuff, but it's a little bit the same issue as with Starbucks. They do buy some coffee/tea according to fair trade standards, but most of their teas/coffee aren't bought according to these standards. Therefore they cannot claim that their entire product is fair, as most of their product contains non-fair coffee or tea, therefore they don't get the 'fair trade' emblem on their products. I check a site called FairFood who keep s track of this. Douwe Egberts is labeled 'semi-fair'. It's not totally unfair, but it isn't totally fair either.

image6.gifSo I tried if I can buy another brand. Of course there's always the 'Max Havelaar' brand, but that's not available everywhere, I buy Max Havelaar if I can, but I'm not always able to do that. So I looked on my FairFood site and discovered that Lipton Tea is fair, or at least, the products that were available in 2006. Their Green Tea is new on the market, but all ther ice teas are labeled fair and also their yellow tea, So I guess their green tea is also fair. Note if you check the site that Pickwick Tea is labeled 'unfair'. According to FairFood, Lipton Tea is a better choice than the AH brand and Pickwick. So I will buy Lipton Green Tea from now on and try to cut on the carbon hydrates.

I think I will change my breakfast and dessert: usually I eat bread for breakfast and lunch and I eat Jordans Crunchy in my yogurt for dessert. From now on I will have a bowl of yogurt for breakfast, together with two apples. I keep my bread for lunch, so I will cut my bread intake in half. I will make sure to buy tomato/vegetable juice to drink when I have lunch. In the USA they have 'V8', but that isn't sold here widely. I know a supermarket where you can buy those small cans, but it is VERY expensive. Too expensive to drink every day. So I'll buy a carton of Albert Heijn's (AH) vegetable juice (1 liter = about 4 cups) which costs € 1.60. For dessert I will have plain yogurt with line seed oil, and leave the crunchy out and take it as a treat during week-ends. Together with the green tea this should increase my weight loss.

I hope it works. In theory it should work. I keep you informed about my progress. I've got about 70 pounds to lose... that's a lot, but I can do it. I know I can. :D
