Today is a special day. It’s Good Shepherd Sunday, which means there’s a lot of extra attention to vocations to the priesthood in a lot of Dutch parishes, but for Amersfoort it’s an extra special Sunday: on May 3, it’s the feast day of St. Ansfrid of Utrecht. Count of Brabant. Married to Hilsondis; father of one daughter; after the girl’s birth, Ansfrid and Hilsondis, lived as brother and sister. Courtier and knight in the service of Holy Roman Emperor Otto III and Saint Henry II. After many years of this life he realized a call to religious life, and in 974 he gave up his life as a soldier. In 992 he founded a convent at Thorn, Netherlands, which his wife and daughter entered; his daughter eventually became abbess.

I really LOVE travelling by train. I just love traveling in general. So as soon as I can find a good excuse, I will use it to travel. It had been a while since I visited my friend Grefoline and her husband, so therefore I sat in the train on a Saturday morning, heading for Utrecht where they live. I did not recover completely, so I knew I had to pay the price for these kinds of ventures sooner or later.
I knew this beforehand and usually it’s the day after I’m wiped out. Therefore I decided to go to Mass on Saturday as well. Normally I would never be able to return to Groningen before 5pm when Vigil Mass starts, so therefore I decided to visit Amersfoort for Mass. I know the priest over there :lol:, he’s the one to blame for the fact I’m a Catholic now. And I also had some stuff to give, because he’s celebrating his birthday next Sunday. So my idea was: go to Mass, shake hands with him, have a small talk, give him the gifts and take the train from 8:38PM to Groningen. I would be home reasonably early and get a good night of sleep.
