I heard other people complaining about Murphy, his Law and the unwelcome visits he pays to people. For some reason I always thought I wouldn’t be in his address book, because I hardly am in situations where things go wrong or break down at the worst possible time. Until yesterday evening.
It’s a natural reflex for most people to attribute the ‘blame’ of things going wrong to things outside themselves. At least, that’s the case when it concerns them. When in other people’s lives things go wrong, it’s of course their own fault. Psychologists call this the fundamental attribution error. I always thought I wasn’t that susceptible to it, partly because I was aware of it and certainly because I’ve studied enough psychology not to fool myself anymore. Until yesterday evening.

Yesterday evening, late at night, I decided to finish the web site maintenance I was doing to be over with it today. A bad idea. Somehow I goofed up and before I knew it, the MySQL data base for taquoriaan.com crashed. Oops… It turned out that it was not possible to do some troubleshooting and quick repairs… all my blog posts, links, images, everything was gone.
I cannot be bothered too much with it, though. It’s just a blog, a thing. Nobody got hurt, the only thing that sustained minor damage was my ego. So with this new fresh blog, I’ll start over happily from square one again. My Dutch blog wasn’t affected, so I always can haul over some posts from there, if necessary. 
Lesson learned: don’t mess with your blog’s back end software and databases while half asleep, even when you think of yourself you’re a WordPress genius.
