Still getting healthy: 8 lbs. down! YAY!

May 6th, 2009 Inge No comments

I think it has been two weeks ago since I started on my journey towards a healthy weight. I have to admit that I haven’t been very faithful counting calories and exercising due to my headaches. But I’m not giving up! I noticed I eat far less compared to earlier, before I started to change my routine. I believe it is caused by the fact I am slowing down with my medications. I was on 40mg Paxil a day and I want to reduce that to 20mg first. I want to get rid of it entirely before the CNMC in June. I see how losing weight goes actually very quickly when I stop taking Paxil: I lost 8 pounds in two weeks already and I haven’t been very strict with the regime. I know that when I just continue eating like I did before I had to take Paxil, I will end up getting my old weight back. :nuncool:

Besides listening to audio on my trusty old iPod shuffle, I’m also subscribed to video-podcast feeds. My current PC setup doesn’t like playing video in the latest version of iTunes, which becomes clunkier after every new release. I’m playing with the idea to install a dedicated feed aggregator with podcast support and have the videos being played by Windows Media Player or Real Player. Most podcasters, however use Apple proprietary formats like .mov for their videos. Usually I end up watching the video on Youtube or Google Video because my player doesn’t support the format.

Watching video podcasts is more fun for me and it takes less time. The average video podcast (or vidcast) takes about six to eight minutes to watch, whereas a podcast easily takes thirty minutes. I have been looking in the iTunes podcast directory to find videos about getting healthy and doing fitness, because I have to lose about 16.5 kilos to reach my ideal weight of 83.6 kg / 184.3 lbs. (I would have a BMI of 25 with my height of 183 centimetres or 6 feet with that weight, it still sounds very heavy, but okay).

Yourself! Fitness Exergaming

yourselffitness I know I praised this program before on other sites, but I like this application so much I want to dedicate a blog post to it. Last October I bought a game for my PC that changed my life. The game’s goal is to improve your general fitness level. You get a personal trainer, called Maya, and this animated coach guides you through the exercises. Every ten workout sessions you do a fitness evaluation. The application will use that data to tailor future workouts. Workouts are never the same, it’s also possible to add some props like a stability ball, hand weights, an aerobic step and a heart rate monitor. This was you can vary your workouts endlessly. If you don’t like a certain exercise during a session, you can select another one that will train the same area of your body.
